TTI x SAP: Global Water Challenge

Together with one of TTI's clients on the advisory side, SAP, we are launching the Global Water Challenge and hosting a Davos event about water innovation during WEF 2026.

Our challenge is clear: which startup innovators can boost water efficiency & resilience across industries such as agriculture, retail, utilities, technology, real estate and manufacturing?

We are looking for innovators who have solutions that help businesses manage their water data & resources across a variety of industries.

💦 Water is the world's most stressed resource: by 2030, global demand is projected to outstrip supply by 40%. 1 in 4 people already live in regions of severe water scarcity.

SAP is a German multinational software company and the world's largest vendor of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.

🔥 By the end of this project with SAP, we'll select 2 top innovators to run pilot programs with.

I'm excited about the impact of integrating nature-related innovation with a software group that's deeply embedded across all industries.

ERP software lives right at the core of business processes (finance, HR, procurement, supply chain & logistics, CRM, manufacturing) both for SMEs and multinationals - all of which are SAP's clients across more than 180 countries and €34 billion revenue as of last year.

Impact News

🪨 Investors call for creation of International Minerals Agency (Reuters)

Investors managing $18 trillion in assets are urging the creation of an independent “International Minerals Agency” modeled after the IEA to monitor global mineral supply and demand, track illegal flows and provide sustainability performance data on companies.

Note: given the unprecedented growth in the global relevance of certain minerals, more basic coordination is urgent. Through our emerging markets exposure via TTI's investment advisory, we've noticed this gap in the last few years - but now, that gap screams for rapid action. While it won't be 100% on point, some coordination will be better than none.

🌾 Two small changes may reduce agriculture’s dependence on synthetic fertilizers (Technology Networks)

A Michigan State study shows that planting cover crops and delaying nitrogen application can reduce dependence on synthetic fertilizers without lowering corn yields. These simple changes help retain nitrogen in the soil and support more sustainable farming.

Note: in an ideal world, we'd also be moving away from the entire current paradigm in corn production - but to be realistic and already improve the status quo in the meantime, tackling this can go a long way. I see endless parallels between how we treat our soils and how we treat human health. That's a discussion for another time.

10 years after the UN climate pact, what did it actually do? (CBC News)

Ten years after the Paris Agreement, global greenhouse‑gas emissions continue to rise and many countries have missed their climate‑pledge deadlines. The deal created a landmark global framework, but fulfilment of commitments and emissions cuts remain well behind what is required.

Note: there's no surprise here, but the reason I brought it up is to remind ourselves of the need & opportunity for more effective ways to coordinate - and in a world where multilateral action becomes increasingly challenging, this also relates to bilateralism and new partnerships.

🌊 Oceans on the balance sheet (World Wildlife Fund)

WWF’s 2025 Ocean Guide calls for urgent systemic reform in governance, finance, markets, innovation, and knowledge to protect ocean health. It presents five levers to embed the ocean’s value into policy and economic decisions.

Note: when it comes to tackling "nature" as a whole, the ocean side faces an exponential set of challenges similar to the land side. Given what happened with the UN Law of the Sea framework and the ongoing US vetoes against this, I find it important to discuss the economics behind it. Coming soon.
